President Trump and PM Modi meet, Indian students-workers will get two big ‘gifts’ in America?

PM Modi in America: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit to the US, where he/she will meet President Donald Trump. PM Modi shows this visit to the strengthening relations between the two countries. PM Modi has become the fourth foreign leader hosted by the White House since Trump took over the presidency. PM Modi and Donald Trump have had many meetings before, but this time the tour is quite special. PM Modi has come to meet him/her within three weeks of Trump’s becoming President.
The meeting between Prime Minister Modi and President Trump will take place at 2.30 am on 14 February Indian time. Although the whole of India is eyeing this meeting, but there is enthusiasm among the Indian students studying in America. Similarly, Indians working in America are also eyeing the meeting. Indian students and workers have high expectations from this meeting, as they feel that two major issues related to them may be resolved in this meeting.

What do Indian students want from a meeting?

Every year millions of students from India apply to study America, but many students do not get visas. Getting student visas has been a big challenge for Indians. According to the US State Ministry, the F-1 student visa given to Indian students in 2024 fell by 38% in 2023. Because of this, thousands of Indians broke the dream of reading in America.

Indian students are hoping, when PM Modi meets President Trump, he/she will raise the issue. Students hope that they will request the US government to make the rules of giving visas easier and transparent. Such reforms will reduce the delay in getting visas and rejections will also decrease. If this happens, the avenues of higher education in America will open for Indians.

What do Indian workers want from the meeting?

The contribution of Indians in running the American tech industry cannot be denied. The hiring in the tech industry is through the H-1B visa program. Foreign workers are brought in this industry through H-1B visas, of which a large number are of Indians. But there is an atmosphere of uncertainty about this visa program. Supporters of President Trump have demanded that the H-1B visa program be abolished.

However, Trump is not seen doing so, but when PM Modi meets him/her, Indian workers would definitely like the Prime Minister to talk to him/her on the H-1B visa program. Workers hope that PM Modi will increase its number by asking Trump, because only 65 thousand visas are released every year. Indian workers also want stability in this program, so that they get a job easily.
