Mahoba: The municipal administration has started major preparations for the Govardhannath Zoo Fair in Mahoba district of Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh. This fair will start from November 14 and will continue for a month. The work of lighting the fair temple is in its final stages. Charkhari of Mahoba district is called Kashmir of Bundelkhand. There is a glorious history hidden in its past. Once upon a time there was Charkhari State. The Maharaja of this state was a worshiper of Lord Krishna at that time. He had built one hundred and eight temples of Shri Krishna in Charkhari Nagar during the princely state. Seeing such a large number of temples of Shri Krishna, people consider the city as mini Vrindavan.
There are large Ashtadhatu idols of Radha and Krishna present in the temple, which look very picturesque. There is a tradition of celebrating Shri Govardhan Nath Zoo Fair here throughout the year because this is the only place in Uttar Pradesh where the fair is celebrated for a whole month. A crowd of lakhs of people gather in the fair. Apart from Mahoba, a large number of people come to see the fair from Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Banda, Hamirpur, Jhansi, Lalitpur, Fatehpur, Kanpur, Auraiya and other surrounding areas of Madhya Pradesh. This fair will start on the third day of Diwali festival this time.

Municipality Charkhari has sanctioned a fund of lakhs of rupees for organizing the fair. Along with installation of LED lights, cleaning and color illumination works are being done in the city and fair places. Litterateur Dr. Bhavanidin Prajapati told that the fair of Govardhan Nath Zoo of Charkhari in Bundelkhand is very historical which is also famous in the surrounding states.
The fair started for the first time in 1883
Pt. Ravindra Gurudev, priest of Govardhan Nath temple, told that in Kartik Shukla’s Pratipada Samvat 1940 Vikram year 1883, the king of the state Malkhan Singh Judev had inaugurated the fair here for the first time. He was a great devotee of Shri Krishna. This fair continues for a whole month in the month of Kartik and a large number of people from remote areas come here to see it.
108 temples of Shri Krishna are established in the city.
Raja Malkhan Singh Judev of Charkhari state was a great devotee of Shri Krishna who had built 108 temples of Shri Krishna in the city. Apart from temples, beautiful lakes and ponds were also constructed in the city. The forts and historical buildings of the princely state here are famous throughout North India as a form of tourism. This city situated amidst lakes and ponds looks very beautiful.
There will be a lot of religious programs in the fair
In the historical fair, apart from religious gatherings, discourses, Ramlila, Raslila, Mushaira and cultural events will continue for two months continuously. Religious rituals will also be organized in the fair on Devatthan Ekadashi and Kartik Purnima. A huge crowd of devotees will gather in such events. The fair organizer is busy in preparations. The fair ground is being decorated grandly.
