Preparation to make Tactical Commander a Techno Commander, Army education will change in 2026

New Delhi: The Indian Army is busy preparing itself for future wars. For this, emphasis is being laid on the use of more than one technology. Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi said on Monday that now a major change is taking place in the curriculum of the National Security Academy (NDA). Its objective is to convert ‘strategic commanders’ into ‘techno commanders’. This change may be implemented by 2026. General Dwivedi addressed the annual press conference in Delhi ahead of Army Day. Army Day will be celebrated on Wednesday. The main event of the event will be the Army Day Parade in Pune.

Preparing for big changes

General Dwivedi further said that the Army wants to upgrade human resources on a large scale. Since it is the tactical commander who takes the decisions, it is important for him/her to have knowledge of the technology. If the person making the decision is familiar with the technology, it will be easier for the technicians to work. MTech has been increased by 30 percent. Major changes are also taking place in the syllabus of NDA, which will be visible by 2026. In his/her opening remarks, General Dwivedi said, ‘My predecessor (General Manoj Pandey) was a visionary. he/she had declared 2023 as the year of change and 2024 as the year of technology adoption. When I assumed office, the year of change was declared as the decade of change, which started from the time of General Pandey’s announcement. And the year of adoption of the technology was extended to 2025 because a lot still remains to be done on that front.’

NDA course will be upgraded

In fact, a major upgrade is being done to include important topics in the NDA syllabus in line with the changing nature of war. Officials said the current revamp of the curriculum will include strategically important subjects such as network centric warfare, which involves effective use of information technology and computer networking mechanisms and their use to weave all force elements on the battlefield into a single network. Is done. Imagine if all the tanks, ships and soldiers are connected to each other through computers, how much power will increase!

We want to upgrade human resources on a large scale. We want tactical commanders to become techno commanders because they are the decision makers. If the person making the decisions is aware of the technology, it will be easier for the technical people to work. This change will prepare the Indian Army for future wars.

AI and machine learning also included

NDA course will include Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). Their applications in autonomous systems, predictive analytics, image recognition, supporting highly challenging decision making, simulation and strategic planning will be discussed in detail. Suppose, a computer program can predict the enemy’s movements, then we can make preparations in advance. The upgraded curriculum will have detailed modules on cyber, spy and information warfare under the area of symmetric warfare. These are wars that are fought not by direct confrontation, but by the use of information and technology.

Currently these subjects are included in NDA course

NDA cadets undergo three years of training and also pursue academic courses at India’s premier TRAI Services Institute in Pune. Since 1973, NDA cadets have received degrees from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi. Cadets can complete the course with History, Political Science, Economics and Geography in BA, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry or Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics in B.Sc. Air Force and Navy cadets can also opt for the B.Tech degree, of which they complete three years at the academy and the final year at their respective service academies.

There have been many changes

The NDA has made major changes in the curriculum since its inception in line with the war philosophy of the times. These include the Mahajani Committee in 1969 and the Committee to Review the Training of Officers of the Three Services (CORTOS) in 1986. The present syllabus of NDA could be prepared only after two committees have reviewed it from time to time. The Inter Services Study Groups (ISSGs) constituted by the Chiefs of Staff Committee in 2004, 2013 and 2017, as well as the Academic Study Groups (ASGs) constituted alongside each ISSG, have conducted in-depth reviews.
