Prayagraj AIIMS: Will AIIMS like BHU Varanasi be built in Prayagraj also? Central government told its plan

The Central Government has filed an affidavit on the PIL filed demanding the establishment of AIIMS in Prayagraj. It has been told that the Central Government has no plan to build AIIMS in Prayagraj in the year 2025-26. The petitioner advocate filed a supplementary affidavit and told the court that the Central Government has signed an MOU on 21 November 2024 between the Central Health and Family Welfare Department and Banaras Hindu University Varanasi (BHU) to provide budget on the lines of AIIMS in Varanasi. The central government is going to build a new AIIMS in Varanasi.

Can AIIMS like BHU be built in Prayagraj?

This order has been given by the division bench of Chief Justice Arun Bhansali and Justice Vikas Wednesday while hearing the PIL filed by Sahaj Sarathi Foundation and others. It was said that AIIMS can be built in Prayagraj also on the same basis. AIIMS facilities and budget are being provided in BHU under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana.

To get information on this, Additional Solicitor General, senior advocate Shashi Prakash Singh sought time from the court to know whether AIIMS like Banaras Hindu University can be built in Prayagraj also. The court has fixed the next hearing date as January 10, 2025. Time has been given to get information from the Central Government regarding setting up of AIIMS like BHU in Prayagraj.

Why the hurry for AIIMS in Prayagraj?

The petitioner says that there are highways connecting Prayagraj from all directions. There are many central government offices including High Court, Kendriya Vidyalaya etc. here. Every year a crowd of crores comes to the world famous Sangam and medical facilities are missing. In such a situation, AIIMS should be established in Prayagraj. The next hearing of the petition will be on January 10.

It is noteworthy that with the construction of new AIIMS Well Medical students preparing for M.Sc. will also get a lot of benefit. In view of this, 23-24 lakh students who appear for NEET exam every year wait for new medical colleges and increase in MBBS seats.
