Postpone the date of implementation of the three new criminal laws… Congress appeals to the government

New Delhi: Congress on Saturday said that the implementation of three new criminal laws should be deferred so that these three laws can be thoroughly reviewed by the reconstituted Standing Committee of Parliament related to Home Affairs. Party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh has made this request to the Central Government when recently Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal had said that the Indian Justice Code, Indian Civil Protection Code and Indian Evidence Act, which have been brought in place of the Indian Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code and Evidence Act, will be implemented from July 1.

Jairam Ramesh appealed to postpone the law
“On 25 December 2023, the President gave his/her assent to the Indian Justice Code 2023, the Indian Civil Protection Code 2023 and the Indian Evidence Act 2023. These three far-reaching bills were arbitrarily passed by Parliament without proper debate and discussion,” Ramesh posted on ‘X’.

‘146 MPs were suspended in Parliament when the law was passed’
he/she said that 146 MPs were suspended from the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha when these bills were being passed. Ramesh claimed, ‘Earlier these bills were forcibly approved through the Standing Committee on Home Affairs without detailed consultation with stakeholders across the country and ignoring the written and massive dissent notes of many MPs of various political parties including the Congress (who were members of the committee).’

‘Laws must be reviewed and investigated’he/she said, ‘The three new laws are to be implemented from July 1, 2024. It is the clear opinion of the Congress that the implementation of these three laws should be postponed. This is so that these three laws can be thoroughly reviewed and re-examined by the reconstituted Standing Committee on Home Affairs.’ Ramesh also says, ‘The committee should hold extensive and meaningful discussions with all those legal experts and organizations who have serious concerns about the three laws. After that, the concerns of the members should also be heard in the 18th Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
