BJP reminded us of Sikh riots
BJP has reacted sharply to this statement of Rahul Gandhi. BJP spokesperson RP Singh said that in 1984, 3,000 Sikhs were massacred in Delhi, their turbans were removed, their hair was cut and their beards were shaved off. he/she accused Rahul Gandhi of ignoring the Congress party’s own history with the Sikh community. RP Singh challenged Rahul Gandhi to repeat his/her statement on Indian soil. he/she warned of legal action and said that I will file a case against him/her and fight against him/her in the court.
‘Congress is responsible for Sikh genocide’
Union Minister Giriraj Singh also hit back at Rahul Gandhi’s statement. he/she said, ‘Congress, which has been doing appeasement politics for a long time and is responsible for the Sikh massacre, is now trying to preach to us. Rahul Gandhi had said with great confidence that he/she will get 400 seats in writing, but those who could not even cross 99 seats are now talking about winning 400. We need to strongly respond to such claims. Meanwhile, PM Modi has come to power for the third time, he/she has got more votes than his/her grandmother.’
‘Sikhs are the safest and most respected under the BJP government’
Union Minister and prominent Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Puri also criticized Rahul Gandhi. he/she said that he/she himself has been wearing a turban for more than 6 decades and has been wearing a Kada for even longer. Hardeep Singh Puri said, ‘I am not only a proud Sikh, but I am also proud that this government has worked in its own way to solve the issues related to the Sikh community.’ he/she said that Sikhs have never felt so safe and respected as they do now under the current government.
‘Rahul is part of a dangerous agenda’
Puri pointed to a period of insecurity, referring to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots that took place under Congress rule. Hardeep Singh Puri said, “In 1984, a campaign was launched against the Sikhs. 3,000 Sikhs were killed. Anti-Sikh riots took place during Congress rule. Sikhs faced persecution under Congress rule. They were dragged out of their homes and burnt alive with tyres put around them. All this is recorded.” he/she said, “Rahul Gandhi is surrounded by people who have dangerous views, and this is part of a sinister agenda.”
‘An attempt to defame the country’
BJP’s Shivraj Singh Chauhan also attacked Rahul Gandhi over his/her statement in the US. he/she said, “Rahul Gandhi is defaming the country. he/she is disappointed and completely frustrated with the continuous defeats.” Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also criticized Rahul Gandhi over his/her statement on Sikhs. he/she questioned what is the need to raise internal issues on foreign soil. he/she said, “Why go abroad and expose your shortcomings? Such foolishness can be tolerated inside the country, but what is the point of exposing it so much outside? Who is attacking India in this way?”
Congress defends Rahul’s statement
On the other hand, Congress has defended Rahul Gandhi’s statement. Congress leader Pawan Khera, while clarifying Rahul Gandhi’s statement, said, ‘Since when has BJP become synonymous with India? There should be no misunderstanding that criticizing BJP is like criticizing India.
Let us tell you that the 1984 anti-Sikh riots took place after the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her two Sikh bodyguards on 31 October 1984. Thousands of Sikhs were killed in these riots in many parts of the country including Delhi.
