PM Modi’s Ukraine visit shows that balancing act diplomacy is not easy, know how

New Delhi: Prime Minister Modi returned to India on Saturday from Ukraine. PM Modi went to Russia six weeks ago. There was a discomfort in the western world about that visit. Since then, it was believed that the way India had maintained a very difficult balance regarding this conflict, it was shaken somewhere after the visit to Russia, at least at the level of perception of western countries including America. Now that this visit has taken place, the question is what did India achieve from this visit? Was it successful in its policy of maintaining balance from the diplomatic point of view? Experts say that this visit of PM Modi was a mixed one from the diplomatic point of view.

Why was PM Modi’s visit important?

International affairs expert Amitabh Singh said that President Zelensky, on his/her part, spoke in very clear words about buying oil from Russia. However, the President was also explained about the Russian oil import from the Indian side. Foreign Minister Jaishankar clarified that this is a market-related policy and not political. Secondly, Zelensky clearly told India that they should also try to see this conflict from the perspective of Ukraine. Apart from this, the PM’s visit has taken place at a time when Zelensky had returned after inspecting Kursk just a few hours ago. When PM Modi was in Kiev, the Chinese Prime Minister was in Moscow. In such a situation, the difficulties of Indian diplomacy at the geopolitical level have not become much easier, because perception plays a very important role in international diplomacy.

Relations with Russia are also important

In such a situation, India will have to be more sensitive about its relations with Russia in the coming times. After all, Russia has been India’s permanent friend and partner, and India has never openly criticized Russia on international forums. However, experts say that Indian diplomacy has succeeded in completing a balancing act on this matter. Along with this, India described itself as an advocate of peace for the resolution of this conflict and also said that the countries of the Global South also have similar thinking. This was the first time in international politics that India expressed the thinking and understanding of the developing countries on behalf of the Global South in this way regarding a conflict.

Along with this, India also tried to send a message to the world through this visit that it is always ready to play an active role in peace initiatives. Regarding this visit, the Foreign Minister also said that we listened to Ukraine and also told Ukraine those ideas about which it probably did not know.
