PM Modi will visit Ukraine for the first time after the war, he/she had recently visited Russia

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the Ukrainian capital Kyiv on August 23. This will be PM Modi’s first visit to Ukraine since the war with Russia began. This visit is taking place almost a month after his/her meeting with President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. The Ministry of External Affairs said that the detailed program of the visit will be shared later.

The Ukrainian President’s Office said in a statement, “On August 23, on the National Flag Day of Ukraine, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi will visit Ukraine on an official visit.” The statement further said that “during the visit, talks will be held in particular with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.” Apart from this, it is expected that during this time “a number of documents will be signed between Ukraine and India.”

Managing the old relationship is a challenge for India

There is a complicated situation between India, Russia and the USA. India is refraining from condemning Russia’s ‘special military operation’ in Ukraine. India has been urging neighboring countries to resolve the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy. However, the US is concerned about India’s relations with Russia. The US wants to strengthen its relations with India to reduce the growing influence of China. In such a situation, India wants to deepen its relations with Western countries, but at the same time wants to maintain relations with its old friend Russia. This is a delicate situation for India.
