PM Modi leaves behind Donald Trump, Taylor Swift, has more than 10 crore followers on X

New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) account, @narendramodi, has crossed the 100 million followers mark, making him/her one of the most followed world leaders on the platform. As of July 14, PM Modi’s account had 10 crore followers, making him/her one of the top 10 most followed accounts globally.

Elon Musk tops the list

This achievement is not surprising considering PM Modi’s massive popularity through social media and his/her active engagement with his/her supporters. Compared to other prominent world leaders, PM Modi has more followers than US President Joe Biden. Biden has around 38 million followers on the platform. However, former US President Barack Obama has 131 million followers. The list is topped by Elon Musk with 187 million followers.

Modi is on top among Indian politicians

Talking about Indian politicians, PM Modi is already on top. No politician seems to be close to PM Modi. Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi has 2.6 crore followers on X, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has 2.75 crore, Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav has 1.99 crore and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has 74 lakh followers. RJD’s Lalu Prasad Yadav has 63 lakh, Tejaswi Yadav has 52 lakh and NCP chief Sharad Pawar has 29 lakh followers.

Millions of new followers

The growth of PM Modi’s ‘X’ followers has been a gradual but steady one. The account has gained millions of new followers since it was created in 2009. This massive online presence gives the PM an opportunity to communicate directly with his/her voters, share updates on government initiatives and amplify his/her political message.
