PM Modi gets big honor in Nigeria, awarded with The Grand Commander of the Order of Niger


New Delhi: PM Modi is currently on a tour of the African country Nigeria. During this, Nigeria honored Prime Minister Narendra Modi with its award – The Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON). Before this, only Queen Elizabeth had received this honour. In such a situation, PM Modi is the second foreign leader to receive this honour. Earlier in 1969, the Queen of Britain was honored with it. This will be the 17th such international award given to Prime Minister Modi by any country.

Prime Minister Modi reached Nigeria on Sunday in the first leg of his/her three-nation tour. Upon his/her arrival, Prime Minister Modi was warmly welcomed by Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, in Abuja, the capital of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Wike presented the ‘keys’ of Abuja city to Prime Minister Modi. This key is a symbol of the trust and respect given to the Prime Minister by the people of Nigeria.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions in Nigeria to strengthen relations between the two countries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a tour of three countries: Nigeria, Brazil and Guyana from November 17 to November 21. Prime Minister Modi issued a statement indicating that his/her first stop would be in Nigeria at the invitation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Its objective is to strengthen strategic relations between the two countries.

PM had received the invitation

This will be my first visit to Nigeria at the invitation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is our close partner in the West African region, the statement said.
