PM Modi ensured 300% increase in budget outlay for Northeast in a decade: Sarbananda Sonowal


Union Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday said the north-eastern region has received over 300 per cent increase in budget outlay since 2014.

The Union Minister further said that the budget outlay for the sector has reached Rs 94,680 crore in FY 2023-24, up from Rs 36,108 crore in 2014.

he/she said that a significant increase of 28 percent has been recorded in the expansion of national highways. Besides, he/she said, there were 80 National Highways (NH) in the region, which increased to 103 NH by 2014.

Sonowal said the outlay of the infrastructure development scheme has been increased 26 times from Rs 94 crore to Rs 2,491 crore.

he/she said railways have also expanded in the region, with more than 193 km of rail lines being commissioned every year, improving communication.

The railway budget for the region has increased by 370 per cent and 100 per cent broad gauge electrification has also been achieved in the region, he/she said.

he/she said that in less than a decade under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the region now has 17 operational airports, and as a result, the people of the region have boosted the aviation sector with a 113 per cent increase in flights per week. Is.

Going further, he/she said the region has also seen a healthy growth of 39 per cent in the number of universities.

he/she said that to promote organic farming, more than 1.55 lakh hectares of land was used for organic farming. More than 4,016 km of road projects are underway, he/she said, while 4G connectivity has reached almost all parts of the Northeast.

Highlighting the work done on rejuvenation of waterways, Sonowal said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always given prime importance to reviving the inland waterways of the country as a valuable alternative mode of transport that is economical, ecologically Better and efficient. The Northeast, with its rich network of river systems, remains a major success story when it comes to inland waterways.
