PM Modi assures CEOs in US that India is focused on technology and innovation


During his/her three-day visit to the United States, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with industry leaders and discussed the potential and opportunities that India offers to the world.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured US business leaders of India’s deep commitment to protecting intellectual property and promoting technological innovation during a roundtable meeting with top CEOs of the technology industry in New York.

The roundtable hosted by Prime Minister Modi was attended by several prominent personalities from leading companies, including Adobe President and CEO Shantanu Narayen, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, IBM COE Arvind Krishna, AMD CEO Lisa Su, and Nvidia’s Jensen Huang.

During the meeting on the second day of his/her US visit, the Prime Minister discussed ways to promote greater cooperation between the US and India in cutting-edge areas of Artificial Intelligence, quantum computing, semiconductors and biotechnology.

According to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the discussion revolved around the global technology landscape and the impact of innovations on human development and the world economy. The CEOs shared information on how their companies are leveraging technology for innovation and showed keen interest in collaborating with India.

Prime Minister Modi also emphasized the importance of initiatives like the India-US Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (ICET) for the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.

In a social media post on ‘X’, PM Modi said, “Had a useful roundtable meeting with Tech CEOs in New York, discussing technology, innovation and other aspects. Also highlighted the progress made by India in this field. I am happy to see the immense optimism towards India.”

Pointing to the rapid economic and technological transformation taking place in India, Prime Minister Modi invited participating companies to explore opportunities for co-development, co-design and co-production in India.

he/she highlighted India’s strategic efforts in electronics and IT manufacturing, semiconductor production, biotechnology advancement and green growth.

Prime Minister Modi outlined his/her Government’s ambitious plans to make India a global hub for semiconductor manufacturing and mentioned the BIO E3 policy aimed at making India a biotechnology superpower.

Regarding Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Prime Minister reiterated India’s focus on promoting AI for all and emphasized on the ethical and responsible use of this technology.

The CEOs responded positively, expressing keen interest in expanding investments and collaboration with India. They recognised India’s growing role as a global technology hub, driven by its favourable policies, thriving market and growing talent pool.

Many also highlighted the synergies seen in investing in Indian startups to co-create new technologies and solutions for the future.

The roundtable concluded with a mutual commitment to explore the possibility of deeper collaboration and partnership to advance technological innovation globally.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said Prime Minister Modi highlighted India’s growth potential during the meeting with US CEOs.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi today interacted with top US technology leaders and CEOs at a roundtable hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) School of Engineering in New York,” Jaiswal wrote on X.

In a separate bilateral meeting, Prime Minister Modi also interacted with Krishan Singh, Founder and CEO of Holtec International. According to a post on social media by the Ministry of External Affairs, during the meeting, Prime Minister Modi and Krishan Singh discussed Holtec’s plans to expand manufacturing in India and possibilities of enhancing cooperation in the field of civil nuclear energy.

“Working towards environmental goals! PM Narendra Modi met Dr Krishan Singh of Holtec International in New York today. They discussed Holtec’s plans to expand manufacturing in India and possibilities of enhancing cooperation in the field of civil nuclear energy,” the post said.

On Saturday (local time), the Prime Minister attended the Quad Leaders Summit in Delaware, which was attended by US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

On Sunday, the Prime Minister addressed an Indian community conference in Long Island and will deliver a speech at the “Summit of the Future” at the United Nations General Assembly in New York before leaving for India.
