‘PM has time for everything except Manipur…’ Congress leader Jairam Ramesh again took a dig at PM Modi

New Delhi: The Congress on Sunday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of not finding time yet to visit violence-hit Manipur. Along with this, party general secretary Jairam Ramesh reminded of the drama that took place last year over the resignation of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh. Sharing a picture of Chief Minister Singh’s torn resignation letter in a post on ‘X’, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, “Exactly a year ago, there was a big resignation drama in Imphal. The pain and agony of Manipur continues. The non-biological Prime Minister has time for everything except visiting the troubled state or talking face-to-face with the elected representatives there.”
In May last year, Kuki tribals had taken out a solidarity march in the hill districts in protest against the demand of granting scheduled tribe status to the Meitei community. After which ethnic violence broke out in Manipur. Amidst the ongoing violent incidents in the state, Singh had tried to resign from the post of Chief Minister in June last year, but his/her supporters stopped him/her from doing so. Hundreds of women formed a human chain and stopped him/her from going to the Governor’s house and submitting his/her resignation. The women had also torn the resignation letter.

Earlier also the Congress General Secretary had attacked the PM

Let us tell you that a few months before the Lok Sabha elections, in an interview given to ‘The Assam Tribune’ newspaper, he/she had spoken openly on the situation in Manipur. PM Modi had said that I have already spoken about this in Parliament. We have dedicated our best resources and administrative machinery to resolve the conflict. Due to the timely intervention of the Government of India and the efforts of the Manipur government, the situation in the state has improved significantly. However, the opposition had also questioned this statement of PM Modi. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh had targeted PM Modi at that time and said that it is humiliating and shameless for the BJP to claim that the Prime Minister has saved Manipur. Hundreds of people were killed and lakhs of people were displaced. An atmosphere of fear and terror prevails and communities are living separately.
