New Delhi: The country’s former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri was known for his/her simplicity and honesty. he/she was not only a skilled politician but also a great patriot. When he/she was the Prime Minister of the country, one day his/her driver did not reach his/her house on time. Shastri ji waited for a while and then picked up the file and went towards the office on foot. There was a distance of only one kilometer between his/her office and home.

The driver understood that he/she had lost his/her job.

When information about this reached the secretariat, there was a stir. The driver was immediately found and when the driver came to know about this, the ground slipped under his/her feet. he/she pleaded and said that I had made a huge mistake. Actually my child suddenly became seriously ill. Seeing her worried condition, I could not remember anything about my work. I made a big mistake. These conversations between the driver and the officers took place over the phone but the driver understood that he/she had made a big mistake and would lose his/her job.

The department recommended action against the driver and exaggerated his/her negligence in the file. When this matter came to Shastri ji’s attention, he/she asked for the driver’s file and read it carefully. After reading the file, Shastri ji wrote a very important comment. he/she wrote that the driver is also a father. For a father, the importance of his/her child’s life outweighs all other tasks. It is normal for anyone to lose mental balance in such adverse circumstances. Therefore, no action should be taken against the driver and he/she should be forgiven.

When the file reached the department, everyone was surprised to read this comment. Needless to say, after this incident the driver bowed down in reverence towards Shastri ji. Also, he/she became more honest and conscious about his/her work than before.
