‘Parents should think twice before sending children to Canada’, Indian diplomat who returned from Trudeau’s country said a big thing

India-Canada diplomatic tensions: India-Canada relations turned sour due to the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged that Indian officials had a hand in Nijjar’s murder. Rejecting Trudeau’s allegations, India recalled Sanjay Verma, India’s High Commissioner to Canada, on October 19. Canada asked six Indian diplomats, including Verma, to leave the country, upon which India also expelled six Canadian diplomats from the country.
The current diplomatic tension between India and Canada has raised concerns among the students studying there and their families. According to government data, more than 4,27,000 Indian students are studying in Canada. Speaking to news agency PTI, Sanjay Verma warned about the risks of sending Indians to study in Canada. “Parents should think twice before sending their children to Canada,” he/she said. he/she has also given information about the dangerous conditions in Canada.

Increasing suicide of Indian students

Indian Ambassador Sanjay Verma expressed concern over the increasing incidents of suicide among students. he/she said, “There was a time during my tenure when two dead bodies of students had to be sent to India every week.” he/she said that most of the students were committing suicide because they were failing in studies and were under pressure not to return home. Verma said that such situations often arise due to the pressure to succeed, because people spend their entire life’s earnings to educate their children.

Increasing number of poor colleges in Canada

Sanjay Verma said that there are a large number of colleges in Canada which are of poor quality. Because of this, the students studying here neither get good career support nor good education. “These colleges are not delivering what they promise,” he/she said. Verma said that students often go to class only once a week, due to which their skills do not improve and their chances of getting a job are reduced. Many students are forced to do odd jobs instead of pursuing their preferred career.

increasing financial pressure on the family

Educating children abroad is very expensive. Sanjay Verma said, “The parents of these students have often raised money for studying abroad by selling their land, other properties and valuables.” Foreign students have to pay up to four times more fees than Canadian students. Even after this, many families believe that the amount of money they have invested in their children’s education is not providing a good future to their children.

What advice did the ambassador give to Indian students?

Sanjay Verma said, “The ground reality there is not very encouraging.” Many times, education agents make false promises to parents and get their children admitted in such colleges where good education is not provided. he/she advised to be cautious of such agents. Verma said that before taking admission in Canada, students should research the college thoroughly. At the same time, they should know about the ground reality before taking any decision. “Absolutely, parents should think twice before sending their children to Canada,” he/she said. Verma also said that the current situation is going to bring some difficulties for the students.
