Former manager filed complaint

Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was arrested in Dubai on Monday following a defamation complaint filed by his/her former manager, Geo TV reported. Rahat, who was in Dubai for a music event, was immediately detained and taken to a police station for questioning. The report quoted people from the singer’s management company as saying that Rahat’s former manager Ahmed had filed a complaint against him/her with Dubai authorities.

Defamation case

Defamation via social media is a serious offence in Dubai, GeoTV reported. In 2019, a Dubai court reportedly sentenced a man to a fine of AED250,000 and six months in prison after he/she was found guilty of defamation and abuse via social media. The convict had posted offensive comments and morphed photos of a man.

Singer’s video goes viral

Earlier this year, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan landed in a controversy when a video of him/her allegedly slapping a man went viral on social media. In the alleged video, the singer was seen repeatedly hitting the man, who he/she later revealed to be his/her student Naved Hasnain.
