Pakistani legend used to keep his/her wife locked in a cupboard, how was it revealed

New Delhi. The players of Pakistan cricket team always come in news for some reason or the other. Be it on the field or off the field, be it today’s players or retired veterans, we always get to hear their stories. Pakistan’s great Saqlain Mushtaq is counted among the best spinners in the world. This bowler is credited with bowling the doosra, the infallible weapon of off-spinners. There is one thing related to the 1999 World Cup from Saqlain which left everyone surprised. he/she himself told that he/she used to keep his/her wife locked in the cupboard of the hotel.

Today, the players of the team are allowed to travel with their families. Earlier, it was very rare that the cricket board would allow the players to travel with their families. Something similar happened in the 1999 World Cup. The Pakistan Cricket Board did not allow the players to take their family members, even their wives, with them. During this World Cup, Saqlain Mushtaq did something that surprised everyone.

I locked my wife in the cupboard

Pakistan did not allow its players to keep their wives with them in the hotel. Former spinner Saqlain did not like this order of the board. he/she did not refuse it outright but decided not to obey it. During the 1999 World Cup, Saqlain did something in the hotel room which is still discussed today. he/she used to keep his/her wife locked in the cupboard of the hotel room.

Saqlain had revealed this while talking on Raunak Kapoor’s show ‘Beyond the Field’. Saqlain Mushtaq told that during the 1999 World Cup, he/she used to hide his/her wife in the cupboard of the hotel room. he/she got married in December 1998 and the World Cup was held in May-June 1999. his/her wife lived in London and the matches were being held there. Whenever Saqlain went to practice with the team or someone came to meet him/her, he/she used to hide her in the cupboard.

How Saqlain’s secret was revealed

Saqlain said, ‘I had expressed my displeasure to the manager and coach. I was very unhappy with the decision of not keeping my wife with me. The manager and coach used to come to our room and check on us. Many times fellow players also used to come to the room to talk. I and my wife were in the room when we heard someone coming outside, so I asked my wife to hide in the cupboard. The manager came to my room and went back. After some time the officers also came and they also returned after looking. During this time my wife remained hidden in the cupboard. After this, my close friends Azhar Mahmood and Mohammad Yusuf came to the room and said that they know that my wife is hidden in this room. Then I asked them to come out of the cupboard.
