Pakistan upset with Kirsten’s resignation, PCB said – it was done by breaking the agreement…

Karachi. South African legend Gary Kirsten, who made India the ODI World Champion, resigned from his/her post in just 6 months. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said on Wednesday that Kirsten has breached the contract with the board by ending his/her tenure as Pakistan’s limited overs format head coach.

It is understood that the South African coach, who played a key role in making India the ODI World Cup champion in 2011, has resigned following a rift with the PCB over taking away his/her authority in selection matters. However, Kirsten has not commented on this matter since then. Naqvi said that Kirsten has terminated the contract with the board.

“he/she (Kirsten) committed some violations by breaking his/her contract with the PCB,” he/she told the media during an informal discussion on Tuesday night. We did not take any initiative, they terminated the contract with us.

he/she refused to say anything else on this matter. However, PCB has not given the reason for Kirsten’s sudden resignation. Sources have confirmed that this happened because the board did not seek his/her opinion while announcing the team for the Australia and Zimbabwe tours and the new captain for the limited overs format. PCB sources claimed that Kirsten had breached his/her contract by not spending enough time in Pakistan. he/she was insisting on having full foreign coaching support staff.

Naqvi said that PCB has started the process of finding a new head coach for the white ball team. he/she has so far talked to four-five potential candidates in this matter. he/she said, “We will have a new head coach in the limited overs format by the end of this month. Jason Gillespie has agreed to join the team in Australia only on an interim basis. he/she is more focused on his/her role as the red-ball head coach. The team will have a new white-ball format coach for the Zimbabwe tour.
