New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Home Nisith Pramanik told the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that the neighboring country uses drones in large quantities for smuggling from Pakistan. he/she informed that incidents of recovery of 28 drones from Pakistan have come to the fore in the last three years in the state of Punjab. Along with this, a large quantity of weapons and drugs sent through them have also been recovered.
Large amount of drugs and weapons recovered
Nisith Pramanik said that anti-national elements and smugglers are using drones to smuggle weapons and narcotics from Pakistan to Punjab. he/she said that in the last three years till February 28, 2023, 28 incidents of seizures of drones involved in arms and drug trafficking have been detected. The Minister of State for Home said that 125.174 kg of heroin, 0.100 kg of opium, one 9 mm pistol, seven pistols or revolvers and 6 detonators besides other arms and ammunition were also recovered from these drones. he/she said that several steps are being taken by the government to stop this.
Floodlights are being installed on the border
Nisith Pramanik said that effective domination of the borders is being established by the BSF by monitoring the border round the clock and patrolling the entire International Border by manning observation posts. In addition, border flood lights are being installed along the border security fence to illuminate the area during dark. Not only this, detailed vulnerability mapping has been done along the India-Pakistan border including the state of Punjab to strengthen surveillance by deploying vehicles.
