New Delhi : Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar recently visited Pakistan. Jaishankar participated as India’s representative in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting here. This was the first visit of the Indian Foreign Minister to Pakistan in the last 9 years amid the ongoing tension in the relations between the two countries. Jaishankar also met Pakistani PM Shahbaz Sharif here. Although there was no bilateral meeting between the two countries on the sidelines of the meeting, the way India participated in this meeting seemed to give positive signals for the future.

Nawaz urged to forget the past

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had said that India and Pakistan should forget the past and live as good neighbours. Sharif’s comments are being seen as an initiative to improve relations with India after Foreign Minister S Jaishankar’s visit to Islamabad this week. Nawaz Sharif expressed hope that both sides should move forward with a positive approach. On the need to build ‘bridges’ to improve relations between the two countries, Nawaz said that this is the role I am trying to play.

Following several attacks on India by Pakistan-based terrorist groups in the year 2016, India decided not to hold any bilateral talks with Pakistan. India has consistently maintained that talks and terrorism cannot go together. Meanwhile, Nawaz Sharif says that cricket relations between India and Pakistan should be restarted. he/she said that he/she would like to travel to India if both the teams play in the final of a major tournament in the neighboring country. Sharif also stressed the importance of trade relations between the two sides.
