Pakistan cricket’s incurable disease! Coaches changed like clothes but still getting defeat and embarrassment

New Delhi. The situation of Pakistani politics and cricket is almost similar. The bad phase of both is not coming to an end. Due to poor performance, the country’s politicians are facing the sharp anger of the public and the cricket team (Pakistan cricket team) is facing the sharp anger of the fans. After the crushing 2-0 defeat against ‘weak’ Bangladesh on their own ground, this anger has turned into unprecedented anger. The so-called star players of Shan Masood Brigade are being severely criticized for their poor performance.

After the shameful performance in the ODI World Cup and T20 World Cup, the defeat against Bangladesh has destroyed the remaining trust of the fans in the players. Fans say that the Pakistani rulers, officials of the Pakistan Cricket Board and the players have ruined the cricket of the country. The situation has reached such a point that our team has to face the shame of defeat at the hands of Bangladesh, one of the weakest teams in the world in Tests. If this situation continues, then like hockey, cricket will also be wiped out from the country. Let us tell you, in the 13 Tests held before this series, the Bangladesh team had never been able to defeat Pakistan.

The team did not win even one of the last 10 Tests in its own country
After the defeat at home against Bangladesh (Pakistan Vs Bangladesh), the condition of the Pakistan team has worsened in the World Test Championship standings. Shan Masood Brigade has got only two wins and 5 losses in 7 matches and is at 8th place among 9 teams. The team has to face England (3 Tests), South Africa (2 Tests) and West Indies in the next 7 matches, looking at the current performance, expecting victory from them is meaningless. Pakistan team has been performing well on home ground in the past but now the situation is that the team has not won a single out of the last 10 Tests on its ground. Along with this, the team has faced consecutive defeats in its last 5 Tests. Since January 2022, Pakistan has played 17 Tests out of which 10 have been lost and only 3 won. Four Tests have been drawn.

The disease kept increasing as the medicine was given, the coaches were changed continuously but…
The last time the Pakistan team achieved any major success was in the 2022 T20 World Cup where the team became the runner-up after losing to England in the final. However, the decline in Pakistan’s Test and ODI performance had started before this. Surprisingly, instead of improving the country’s cricket structure and discovering young talent, the Pakistan Cricket Board seems to be changing the coach as the solution to the problem. Since 2021, the process of changing coaches like clothes is going on. Sometimes a foreigner is made the coach and sometimes a former Pakistani player, but the result has been zero. Since 2019, half a dozen head coaches have been appointed on regular and interim basis, in such a situation, adjusting with a coach with different working styles and strategies is also a problem for the players. It is said that before the T20 World Cup, Pakistan’s coach of this format, Gary Kirsten, has already submitted a report on the lack of unity among the players. Test team coach Jason Gillespie is facing a similar situation.

The ego battle between the players is at its peak
The talent of Pakistani cricketers has been acknowledged by the world, but at the same time they are also considered to be extremely undisciplined. News of disputes and even scuffles between Pakistani cricketers have become media headlines. The inside news is that after continuous defeats, indiscipline and the battle of ‘ego’ of senior players is at its peak. After the World Cup 2023, Babar Azam was removed and Shaheen Shah Afridi was made the captain of the T20 team and Shan Masood was made the captain of the Test team. The situation worsened when after the defeat in the series against New Zealand, Shaheen was removed and Babar was again given the captaincy of ODI/T20. After this, the relationship between Shaheen and Babar has become sour. his/her father-in-law and former captain Shahid Afridi has also cursed the PCB for this ‘treatment’ with Shaheen. Shaheen is not getting along well with captain Shaan in the Test team. There is even talk that after the first Test against Bangladesh, there was a scuffle between Shaheen and Shaan and due to this Afridi was dropped from the team for the second Test.

I prefer biryani over fitness
The collapse of Pakistan’s cricket structure is also being considered as the reason for poor performance. With club cricket almost coming to an end, it is becoming difficult to identify new talent. PCB’s domestic cricket structure is disorganized. More T20 matches are being played instead of five-day cricket, so reliable players for Test and ODI are not being found. Fitness of players is also a big problem. Pakistan team is currently among the worst teams in terms of fielding and catching. Some former cricketers have also said that most of the current players are not regular in workouts and are not giving up their love for fatty food and biryani. Due to poor fitness and injuries, the speed of fast bowlers is decreasing. Shaheen is the biggest example of this, who once used to bowl at a speed of more than 140 KM/H but now is limited to 135 KM/H. Haris Rauf’s bowling has tremendous speed but he/she has incurred the wrath of the board by declaring himself unavailable to play Tests.

Tried new players but performance did not improve

The current PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi has recently admitted that he/she does not have a pool of players. The PCB never paid attention to creating a pool of 40-50 good cricketers. In such a situation, there are not enough options to replace the veteran players who perform poorly. Apart from the current 16 players, we are forced to depend on just 10-12 players. The young players selected for Test cricket not being able to live up to expectations is also a problem. They do not have the temperament to play cricket for five days. Saim Ayub was adopted in place of Imam ul Haq as an opener but he/she has not been able to do anything special so far. The team does not have a good finger or wrist spinner at present, let alone Tests, ODIs and T20s. Shadab Khan has lost the trust of the selectors due to his/her continuous failure in bowling in shorter format cricket. Abrar Ahmed has also not been seen at the level of Yasir Shah. At one time the team had excellent spinners like Abdul Qadir, Mushtaq Ahmed, Saqlain Mushtaq and Saeed Ajmal but no current spinner is able to make an impact.
