Pakistan: Complete lockdown, protest against forced disappearance of more than 10 Baloch people




Baloch Yakzehti Committee (BYC), the leading Baloch human rights body, shared on Sunday that a complete lockdown and sit-in is being observed in Zehri after more than 10 Baloch people were forcibly abducted from the town in Balochistan by the state authorities on Saturday. .

In a post on Twitter, BYC called these actions “state reprisals” against the Baloch people.

“Security forces and LEAs are carrying out retaliatory actions in Zehri town of Khuzdar, while instigating enforced disappearances and violence. Yesterday they raided the entire area and forcibly abducted many people and made them disappear. The identities of twelve individuals have been confirmed while the others remain unknown.

The names of the kidnapped persons were shared in the post.

In response to the enforced disappearances, BYC noted that families of victims and others blocked the main Quetta-Karachi highway at Jahari Cross in Anjira area as well as Surab Cross and staged sit-ins in protest.

“Zahri city is completely closed and a protest is being held in front of the levy station. People have vowed that the protests will continue until the safe release of all the abducted persons”, the post further said.

“The Baloch Yakzehti Committee stands in solidarity with the aggrieved families of Zahari and appeals to the people of the surrounding areas to join the protest. We must remain steadfast in our resolve to combat forced disappearances and perpetrators”, the post concluded.

Amidst the continuous rise in cases of Baloch people facing brutality, barbarity and violence at the hands of Pakistan, prominent Baloch human rights activist and organizer of Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) Mehrang Baloch called for organizing a national gathering.
