Baloch human rights leader Mehrang Baloch was arrested by the Quetta police and administration of Pakistan in the early hours of Saturday morning, while she was participating in protest against the atrocities against the Baloch community.
The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) shared the details of his/her arrest on X and said that the bodies of the killed youth, who were at the protest site, have also been taken into custody.
“The Quetta Police and Administration along with its other associates arrested Dr. Mehrang Baloch, the central leader of the BYC (Baloch Unity Committee) and took the bodies of the martyred youth into his/her custody,” also said.
It further stated that, in addition, a crack has been introduced on women and children.
Byc highlighted the peaceful performance, which in Quetta Sariyab byc Central Leader Beck Baloch, Dr. Humal Dr. Ilas and Saeed Baloch and other women were held against the arrest.
“Police and state agencies used tear gas, water cannons and bullets on this demonstration, resulting in martyrdom of three Baloch youth and injuries in dozens”, the post said.
Saying works to be “state terrorism”, BYC started sitting in the Sarab area of Quetta on Friday night with the bodies of the youth killed.
“At 5:30 am today, police and other agencies attacked SIT-in, snatched the dead bodies from protesters and arrested byc Central Leader Dr. Maharang Baloch with their colleagues”, the post concluded.
Mehrang Baloch, who was with the protesters during SIT-in protest, shared messages on Friday night, drawing attention to the atrocities faced by Baloch people.
In a video message by him/her at midnight, he/she announced a shutter down call across Balochistan.
he/she said, “The Baloch solidarity committee announced the closure of the entire Balochistan against this harassment and terrorism of the state of Pakistan. There will be a shutter down and wheel jam strike in the entire Balochistan tomorrow.”
The ongoing conflict in the Balochistan region of Pakistan has been marked by the demands of more political autonomy, control over natural resources and better socio-economic situations. Baloch nationalist groups seek independence or increased rights, while the Pakistani government has responded with military interventions.
