Opposition is in no mood to back down on the deputy speaker’s mood, Congress got support of SP, DMK

New Delhi : The budget session of Parliament is starting from today. The issue of the post of Deputy Speaker in Lok Sabha was raised in the all-party meeting held before the budget session. In the meeting, Congress put forward the opposition’s claim for the post of Deputy Speaker. The main opposition party reiterated the demand for the post of Deputy Speaker for the opposition in the Lok Sabha. Congress MP K Suresh and the party’s deputy leader in the House Gaurav Gogoi raised this issue. Other parties like Samajwadi Party and DMK supported it and said that this post is the right of the opposition. The opposition says that traditionally the post of Lok Sabha Speaker goes to the ruling party and the post of Deputy Speaker (Deputy Speaker) goes to the opposition, but this did not happen in the last 10 years of the Narendra Modi-led government.

The budget session will be no less than a litmus test for the government, both the ruling party and the opposition are preparing for this

What is the argument of Congress

Congress leader KC Venugopal has said that during the UPA rule, he/she had given the post of Deputy Speaker to the NDA for ten years. The tradition in the Lok Sabha is that the Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha is given to the opposition. Earlier, the opposition had agreed to support the government-backed candidate Om Birla, provided that the post of Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha is given to the opposition. However, there was no consensus on this. After this, elections were held for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker.

what is BJP saying

BJP says that from 1952 to 1969, the government, power and the post of deputy speaker were with the Congress. There are Congress and India alliance governments in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, Jharkhand, Punjab, Delhi and Himachal Pradesh, there is no deputy speaker there and even if there is one, it is of Congress or India alliance.
