Opposition gives notice of no-confidence motion against Jagdeep Dhankhar in Rajya Sabha, TMC walks out of the House

New Delhi: Opposition MPs have presented a notice of no-confidence motion against Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar in Rajya Sabha today. This no-confidence motion has signatures of a total of 71 MPs. The interesting thing amidst all this is that TMC, which is said to be part of the India alliance, has walked out of the House. No decision has been taken on this issue by Mamata Banerjee’s party. However, if we talk about arithmetic, the opposition does not have the numbers to remove Dhankhar from his/her post.Opposition’s no-confidence motion, TMC’s walkout
The parties of the India Alliance in which Congress is the leader, together have given notice of no-confidence motion against Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar in Rajya Sabha today. However, here there was a lack of coordination in the opposition itself. Trinamool Congress, the main partner of India’s constituent party, has distanced itself by not saying anything on this. MPs from Mamata Banerjee’s party walked out of the House during the no-confidence motion. No decision has been taken by the party regarding supporting this proposal or standing with it.

In which article of the Constitution is it mentioned?
For this proposal, 14 days notice has to be given under Article 67(B) of the Constitution. To pass the proposal, majority is required in both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, which is difficult for the opposition. Congress and other parties feel that this proposal will help in uniting the INDIA alliance, which is currently divided in both the Houses.

Talking about both the houses, the opposition does not have sufficient numbers to remove Jagdeep Dhankhar. It has 236 seats out of 543 in the Lok Sabha and only 85 out of 231 seats in the Rajya Sabha. Till now only 71 MPs have put their seal of approval on it.

Why has this decision been taken?
This step is being taken due to growing differences between opposition parties and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. Before this they talked to the leaders of their respective parties. Congress and other parties believe that this proposal will strengthen the INDIA alliance. At present, the coalition parties have different opinions in both the houses, due to which there is a lack of unity. This proposal can give a message of unity.
