One Nation One Election: These ‘three messengers’ of PM Modi will pacify the opposition angry over ‘one country one election’, know their names

New Delhi: After approving Ramnath Kovind’s report on One Nation One Election, now the Modi government has started pacifying the angry ones. The opposition has not supported One Nation One Election. Many parties including Congress, AIMIM, SP, DMK are against it. This is the reason why now PM Modi has given this responsibility to his/her three emissaries. Modi has chosen Union Ministers Arjun Ram Meghwal and Kiren Rijiju along with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. All three ministers will now have the responsibility of persuading the opposition.

The Modi government has now appointed senior ministers Rajnath Singh, Kiren Rijiju and Arjun Meghwal to hold extensive consultations with political parties to build a consensus. It is believed that it can be implemented in 2029, but many difficulties will arise before that. As of now, 32 political parties are in support of One Nation One Election, while 15 parties are against it. To implement this plan of conducting simultaneous elections, constitutional amendment will be needed, as well as the support of all the states is also necessary.

Sources said the entire Cabinet, including ministers from parties like TDP and JD(U), appreciated the decision. PM Modi told his/her allies that this is indeed a much-needed, much-awaited, long-pending reform and it is only in the interest of the people, sources said. Many opposition leaders have described the push for simultaneous elections as a desperate attempt to remain in power. The Prime Minister told his/her Cabinet colleagues that no one needs to look at it through the prism of politics. This is not a politically motivated decision, nor is it for political gain. It is to ensure that people’s welfare is kept at the centre stage.


The government is not in a hurry

Sources also indicated that the government is not in a hurry to bring this law in Parliament as is being speculated through various quarters. It wants wider consultations so that various stakeholders, especially the common man, can also give their views. Vaishnaw said in the cabinet briefing that consultations and meetings will be held with various stakeholders and seminars across the country. Sources said that since the government will bring an amendment to the Constitution to get this law passed, the entire focus will be on consensus. he/she said that several numbers will be made at various levels from political parties to legal representatives to the common man to achieve consensus on the issue.
