Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar… three states saved the NDA

New Delhi: BJP had raised the slogan of ‘400 Paar’ in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In most of the exit polls that came after the elections, the BJP-led NDA was predicted to get more than three hundred and fifty seats. However, when the counting of votes started on June 4, the results were completely opposite. BJP remained far from majority on its own. NDA’s seats also appeared to be around 300. In this election, the public has given full support to the opposition India Alliance. While BJP has taken a lead in 244 seats, Congress is seen to have 98 seats. In UP, Samajwadi Party is leading in 34 seats. On the other hand, TMC is ahead in 29 seats in West Bengal. DMK is ahead in 22 seats in Tamil Nadu. Overall, most of the parties involved in the India Alliance performed strongly. However, the role of three states is very important in the way the BJP-led NDA alliance returns to power. If the party had not performed strongly with its alliance partners in these three states, then the path to forming the government at the Center would also have become difficult. Those three states are Bihar, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.

BJP’s spectacular performance in Odisha

When counting started on Tuesday morning for 543 Lok Sabha seats, nobody would have thought that BJP would be far from majority. Fortunately, BJP-led NDA alliance performed well in Odisha, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh. Due to which NDA is once again seen forming the government at the center. Talking about Odisha, BJP has maintained a lead on 19 out of 21 Lok Sabha seats in the state. On the other hand, the ruling Biju Janata Dal and Congress of the state are ahead on one seat each. BJP stalwarts including Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, party spokesperson Sambit Patra, National Vice President Baijayant Panda, former Union Minister Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Aparajita Sarangi are leading from Sambalpur, Puri, Kendrapara, Balasore and Bhubaneswar respectively.
