Nursery Admission 2024: 10-20 kilometers away from nursery school! You will still get ‘neighborhood’ points, know these criteria

Distance, sibling, alumni… the race for nursery admission has started on these three important parameters. Online forms will be filled till 20th December. So far, out of 1741 private schools, 1440 schools have uploaded their admission criteria on the website of the Directorate of Education. The criteria of all schools states that neighborhood is the most important criterion, but neighborhood no longer means a neighborhood school.
In almost all the schools, maximum marks given to distance range from 40 to 90 points. In this 100 point system, schools have also given importance to distance, sibling, alumni. Distance i.e. distance from home to school, this criterion is important because the Directorate of Education says that the closer the child is admitted to the school, the better. But many schools have kept the distance as per their convenience.
The school is giving more distance points to the children according to its transport service, even if the distance from school to home is long. Schools have also increased the distance range from 0 to 3 or 6 kilometers to 10, 16 or even 20 kilometers. Like Prudence School, Ashok Vihar has fixed 55 points, in which 45 points will be given for 10 to 15 km, 35 points for 15 to 20 km.

Mention of neighborhood in land deed:

Advocate and education activist Khagesh Jha says, many private schools were given land by DDA and the land deed states that they have to admit children from the neighbourhood. Neighborhood has also been mentioned in the essential certificates of schools, whether on government land or private land. Generally it is 5-6 kilometers. However, the court has allowed schools to increase the distance limit as per the needs of parents from nearby areas, but has asked them not to increase it to 12, 15 or 20 km. Nursery means small children, for whom it is not right to travel long distances every day.

Schools covering remote areas:

However, RC Jain, president of Delhi State Public Schools Management Association, says that schools increase the distance limit because there are less residential areas in their areas or because their fee structure does not allow for families. There are many areas where there are more schools and less children. In such a situation, many schools depend on children from other areas. This is also suitable for the convenience of parents and children. But it is illegal to decide the neighborhood according to the transport route.

Distance according to transport service:

On the other hand, in many schools the distance is according to their transport service. If a student is away but takes the school vehicle, he/she can get more points. Like Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar, 50 points have been given for distance, but children from those areas where they have transport service will get these points. Blue Bells Public International, Kailash will also give 50 points to those who live in transport areas. Khagesh Jha says, the point was earlier banned on the basis of transport. But later the court gave permission to the schools. But it is wrong to define ‘neighborhood’ by school transport routes.
