Now there will be grading of three star officers in the army, know what effect this will have on the officers.

New Delhi: Now there will be grading of three star officers in the Indian Army. This means that now officers of Lieutenant General rank in the Army will also be measured in the grade of scale from 1 to 9. According to sources, an order related to this has been issued and this grading system will be implemented from March 31. About two years ago the Integrated Defense Staff (IDS) had prepared a proposal. It was said that three star officers in the Army, Navy and Air Force should also be graded according to their work and then their new posting or work responsibilities should be decided according to the grading. Navy and Air Force have already implemented this. Now the Army is also implementing this system. According to sources, till now grading in the Army was done only till the rank of Lieutenant General. Once an officer reached the rank of Lieutenant General, there was no grading. Different qualities have been fixed for each rank and according to those qualities, officers are measured on a scale from 1 to 9 and their numbers are given in their ACR i.e. Annual Confidential Report.

Every specified quality has different marks. At the time of promotion, this grading has the most importance and promotion is decided according to the marks obtained in it. But once an officer became Lieutenant General, there was no grading. But now officers of the rank of Lieutenant General (except Army Commander and Vice Chief) will also be graded. When an officer becomes a Brigadier after promotion from the rank of Colonel in the Army, he/she is called a One Star Officer.

Major Generals are above Brigadier, they are called two star officers and after that they become Lieutenant General. Lieutenant General has three stars and Army Chief General has the rank and carries four stars.

Now not only seniority but also grading will be important
According to sources, having a grading system even among Lieutenant General rank officers will help in choosing the right candidate for giving further responsibility. For example, in the Army, only Lieutenant General rank officers can become Corps Commanders and Army Commanders can also become Lieutenant General rank officers. Having a grading system will also help in deciding which corps commanders can become army commanders. Till now, army commanders have been made on the basis of seniority (date of birth). Seniority and residual service are considered in making an Army Commander. That means when the officer picks up the appointment, there should be at least one and a half years left for his/her retirement.
