Now Tata will make C-130J in collaboration with American defense company, know what is the new project

New Delhi: India’s Tata Group and American company Lockheed Martin are going to do a special work together. Both the companies are going to build a special facility in India where repair and maintenance of airplanes will be done. This facility will be especially for the C-130J Super Hercules aircraft, which the Indian Air Force has. Along with this, the maintenance of C-130J aircraft owned by other countries around the world will also be done here.

Maintenance service of aircraft will be done in India
This is the first time that a repair and maintenance (MRO) facility is being set up by a major aircraft company in India. This facility will benefit 27 operators from 23 countries who have C-130J aircraft. Another big thing has come to light in this deal between Tata and Lockheed Martin. Both the companies have also agreed to increase the manufacturing and assembly of C-130J aircraft in India. This work will be done only when they get the contract for the Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) program of the Indian Air Force.

Capacity to manufacture aircraft will increase in India
This means that if Lockheed Martin gets this contract, it will increase its capacity to manufacture aircraft in India. However, the American company will continue to manufacture C-130J aircraft for the US and other countries at its existing plant. This plant is located in Marietta city of Georgia state of America.

What will be the benefit of the deal?
Sukaran Singh, CEO and Managing Director, Tata Advanced Systems, said that the collaboration with Lockheed Martin on the C-130J platform proposal for the Indian Air Force’s MTA project is a milestone for Tata Advanced Systems. he/she further added that this marks Tata Advanced Systems’ entry into the defence MRO sector for large aircraft platforms in India.

Both have their eyes on the Air Force projectIt is worth noting that Lockheed Martin and Tata Advanced Systems Limited already have a joint venture named Tata Lockheed Martin Aerostructures Limited (TLMAL). It was established in 2010. It is the sole global source for C-130J empennage assembly, which is included in all new Super Hercules aircraft produced in the United States. So far, TLMAL has manufactured more than 220 C-130J empennages. Now both the companies are eyeing the Indian Air Force’s MTA project, which is a mega transport aircraft deal.
