Now it’s enough… India told this to Pakistan regarding Indus Water Treaty

New Delhi: India has told Pakistan that it wants changes in an old agreement between the two countries, the Indus Water Treaty. This agreement is about the sharing of river water between the two countries. India says that a lot has changed since this agreement, so changes are needed in it. According to a Hindustan Times report, on the 30th of last month, India has given a notice to Pakistan demanding review and amendment of the Indus Water Treaty. Under Article XII (3) of the treaty, its arrangements can be amended from time to time through negotiations between the two governments. Why does India want changes in the treaty?
India says that the situation now is not the same as it was when this agreement was signed. The population of the country has increased, farming methods have changed and we have to use water to generate energy as well. Continuous cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir is hindering the smooth functioning of this treaty. This is also the reason why there is a need to reconsider this agreement.

No response received from Pakistan
Pakistan has not said anything about this yet. But it is believed that Pakistan will be against this change because it benefits a lot from this agreement. There has been a long-standing dispute between India and Pakistan over water. This new step can deepen this dispute. Now it remains to be seen how Pakistan reacts to this.

why this decision was taken

Foreign affairs experts say that behind this move of India, Pakistan has always had a dispute with India over the water of the Indus river. It has opposed many hydroelectric projects of India. Terrorist attacks in India have been taking place from Pakistan. The people of Jammu and Kashmir feel that their interests have been ignored in the Indus Water Treaty. On the other hand, Punjab and Haryana, these states feel that they are not able to take full advantage of the water of the Indus river.
