Notice sent in 33,000 cases of tampering in GST returns in FY2017-18 and FY2018-19, know the whole thing

Central tax authorities have issued nearly 33,000 GST notices to registered traders for discrepancies in filed returns and short payment of tax in financial years 2017-18 and 2018-19, an official of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) said on Wednesday. Have been sent. According to language news, the official said that the meeting of the National Coordination Committee of State and Central GST officers under the chairmanship of the Revenue Secretary is likely to be held at the end of this month or in the beginning of January. In this, tax officials will be guided to deal with such notices.

Because of this also a pile of notices appeared

Speaking at industry body Assocham’s national conference on GST, CBIC member (GST) Shashank Priya said the notices sent for financial years 2017-18 and 2018-19 are a small fraction of the total returns filed for both. He said that due to extension of the deadline given to taxpayers for filing annual returns by two years, such notices have piled up. The Goods and Services Tax (GST) was implemented on July 1, 2017. The last date for filing annual returns for financial year 2017-18 was extended to February 7, 2020, while for 2018-19 it was till December, 2020.

Hence the return was also filed late

The time for filing returns was extended on the request of taxpayers, so returns were also filed late and officials (to scrutinize the returns) came under a lot of pressure. Hence this unfortunate situation arose. Hopefully this situation will be resolved as we move forward and we will not have so many proposed notices pending at the same time. This has happened for the financial year 2017-18 and we will see how to deal with it. He said the central GST authorities have sent around 30,000 to 33,000 notices to GST registered businesses for short payment of tax.
