New Delhi: Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar is going to visit Pakistan for the first time in nine years. he/she will represent India in the SCO meeting to be held in Islamabad on 15-16 October. This information was given by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on Friday. This visit of Foreign Minister S Jaishankar is going to be very important. It has been clearly stated by the Ministry of External Affairs that this visit of the Foreign Minister is for the SCO summit and it cannot be seen as a peace initiative. This decision shows India’s commitment to SCO. SCO is an important organization for regional security. India takes SCO very seriously.

There is a tense situation with Pakistan since 2019

Let us tell you that relations between India and Pakistan have been tense since February 2019. However, India has always said that it wants to improve relations with Pakistan. But for this, India has also made it clear that Pakistan will have to control terrorism and violence. Announcing the foreign minister’s participation, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the visit is about the SCO and should not be read too much into it. The visit also underlines the importance India attaches to the Eurasian bloc.

India’s last High Commissioner Ajay Bisaria said that now the ball is completely in Pakistan’s court because by sending Jaishankar, India has taken a bold step, which indicates its desire to stabilize this troubled relationship. Pakistan should take advantage of this opportunity and propose a meaningful bilateral dialogue on the occasion of SCO as host.

What is SCO Summit?

The SCO, which includes India, China, Russia, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, is an influential international organization. It works to promote regional cooperation and accelerate economic development. India had assumed the presidency of SCO in 2022 and hosted the digital summit. India has been a member of the SCO since 2005 and became a full member in 2017. Pakistan also became a permanent member of SCO along with India in 2017.
