Documentary made on SS Rajamouli

The ‘Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli’ documentary, which recently released on the OTT platform Netflix, shows how SS Rajamouli became one of the greatest filmmakers in the world. Apart from his/her family members, Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Ram Charan and Jr NTR were also seen in this 74-minute documentary.

In the documentary, Rana Daggubati revealed that he/she was not the first choice to play the villain in ‘Baahubali’ and its second part. The producers had earlier tried to approach Hollywood star Jason Momoa, who became quite famous in India after playing the role of Khal Drogo in the first two seasons of ‘Game of Thrones’ in 2011 and 2012.

Rana Daggubati revealed

Recalling being approached for the ‘Baahubali’ films, Rana Daggubati said in the documentary, ‘The producer, Shobu Yarlagadda came to me and told me that it is a historical war film and they are looking for me to play the villain. I replied that I would love to narrate the story. I also asked him/her, ‘Which actor did you approach before approaching me?’ he/she said, ‘We tried approaching Jason Momoa of ‘Game of Thrones’!’. I said, ‘Well, that’s a good second number.’

Both the films did a lot of business

Both the films became the most expensive Indian films at the time of their release. Made at a cost of Rs 180 crore, ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’ grossed Rs 650 crore worldwide in 2015 and ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ was made at a cost of Rs 250 crore and grossed Rs 1800 crore at the global box office in 2017. The sequel still remains the second highest-grossing Indian film.
