Not only military but also ‘civilian army’ is needed for the interest of the country: Justice Surya Kant

New Delhi: Supreme Court Justice Surya Kant believes that India needs a civilian army along with the army. Justice Surya Kant said that a nation moving forward in the economic, political, rule of law and good governance fields not only needs an army but also needs a civilian army of experts. These experts will look after the interests of the country. he/she said these things during his/her address at the National Defense University on Sunday.

Addressing the concluding session of the international competition for law students at National Defense University, Justice Surya Kant said that here students get experience in complex areas of law. They work on matters related to international law, global security, cyber terrorism and national security. he/she also encouraged students to get trained in research in view of the increase in economic and financial crimes.

Justice Surya Kant said during this time that the way the country is developing, along with the Indian Army, a civilian army of experts is also necessary. This civilian army should look after the interests of the nation with dedication and intelligence both inside and outside the country. The field of law demands not perfection but perseverance, curiosity and commitment to the ideals of fairness and equality.

Justice Surya Kant said that whether you are a law graduate, an expert in criminal law or international law, whether you are a professor or a scientist or an engineer, or hold any other responsible position. You become part of the citizen army that very carefully, intelligently and diligently looks after the interests of the nation within and outside. Justice Kant described dedication, curiosity and impartiality as necessary to progress in the field of law.

Justice Kant also expressed concern over the increasing economic and financial crimes in countries like India. he/she encouraged students to do research in this field. he/she said that in future, legal experts will be needed to deal with such crimes. Therefore students should prepare themselves in this field from now on.
