NExT Exam: What is Ayush National Exit Exam? Just MBBS is not enough, now you will have to give this test to become a doctor

Ayush National Exit Test in Hindi: Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH Prataprao Jadhav has announced today on September 6 that the National Exit Test (NExT) for AYUSH will be implemented from the 2021-2022 batch. The announcement was made at a press conference held in the national capital. Jadhav informed that the decision has been taken on the recommendation of an expert committee constituted to review the concerns of the students.

The committee suggested that NExT be applicable to students enrolled in the 2021-22 academic session under the NCISM and NCH Act, 2020, to remove any ambiguity in its implementation. This exam is expected to be conducted by AIIMS.

NExT is required for licensing and enrollment in the state or national register after completion of a one-year internship. An official statement said that the structure of NExT is a problem-based exam that includes clinical case scenarios, images and videos to evaluate practical skills.

Interns who pass NExT before completing the internship may register with the state or national registration board only after completing the one-year internship.

What is Ayush NExT Exam: What is NExT?

It was in 2019 when the National Medical Commission Bill 2019 introduced the concept of NExT. This exam is a comprehensive medical post graduation level exam that aims to focus on various objectives in the Indian medical education system.

The exam will serve as a qualifying exam for final year MBBS students, and it will also grant a license to practice medicine in the country. Moreover, the exam provides a merit-based admission process for students wishing to pursue postgraduate courses.

This merit-based admission process aims to ensure that deserving students get a fair opportunity to specialise in the medical field. The exam is expected to be conducted by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), which, according to the NMC, will be held for the first time in 2028.
