Beijing : Recently, India’s neighboring country Bhutan claimed that ‘no Chinese village exists’ in its territory. At the same time, the Bhutanese PM said that ‘China also has an equal role in resolving the Doklam dispute’. Expansionist China is now openly taking advantage of the support received from Bhutan. China’s official newspaper Global Times in an article has termed India as ‘the biggest obstacle to resolving the China-Bhutan border dispute’. On the Bhutanese Prime Minister’s recent statements, the Global Times wrote, ‘Chinese experts have praised this progress and underlined that the border disputes between the two countries are very minor. But they have not been formally demarcated due to India’s resistance.
Why did Bhutan give equal space to China in resolving the Doklam dispute, Global Times wrote, ‘Doklam is entirely within China’s territory.’ and ‘he/she has nothing to do with India’. An article on this by a private agency news.sina.cn makes things more clear. Reflecting China’s point of view, this website wrote in its article, ‘There is no difference between China and Bhutan that Doklam belongs to China.’ Like Global Times, it also wrote the same thing, ‘Doklam neither belongs to India nor Bhutan, it belongs only to China.’

Trusting China is the biggest mistake
These fabricated claims of the Chinese media and spewing venom like this is the result of Bhutan’s support. Experts believe that the ‘courtesy’ of India and Bhutan by giving China a chance to have its say in deciding the tri-junction points has now proved to be a failure. While China is building villages and roads on a large scale inside Bhutanese territory, Thimphu and Delhi are still relying on agreements that Beijing has long ago ‘thrown away’.

The construction of the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by China is also beneficial for the development of Bhutan.
