Neither fear of law nor respect… Nitin Gadkari told in Parliament why road accidents are increasing?

New Delhi: Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari expressed concern over the increasing deaths in road accidents. he/she told in the Lok Sabha on Thursday that this year 1.68 lakh people have died in road accidents. 60 percent of those who died were youth. Not following traffic rules and carelessness are the main reasons for this. Gadkari expressed concern over people’s indifference towards rules.

1.68 lakh people died in road accidents this year

Gadkari said that this situation is sad and the society will also have to cooperate to stop it. Gadkari said, ‘It is sad to say that despite efforts, 1.68 lakh deaths have occurred in one year…these people were not killed in riots, but in road accidents.’ he/she said that 60 percent of those who died were boys and girls. Gadkari said that people do not stop at red signals and do not wear helmets. Every year thirty thousand people die just because of not wearing helmet.

Mentioned the accident that happened to him/her

he/she also mentioned an accident of his/her own. he/she said, ‘When I was the leader of opposition in Maharashtra (Legislative Council), I was injured in a road accident and my bones were broken at four places. I understand this situation. The Minister called upon the MPs to cooperate actively in ensuring road safety.

Emphasis was given on these four things

Gadkari stressed on four important things to reduce road accidents. These are- road engineering, vehicle engineering, compliance with laws and public awareness. he/she said that public cooperation is very important for real change. Most deaths occur because rules are not strictly followed. This problem cannot be solved without the cooperation of public representatives, media and society. he/she also said that even increasing the fine has not reduced the violation of rules.

Focus on fixing black spots

Highlighting the government’s efforts, Gadkari said Rs 40,000 crore has been given to repair accident-prone areas, called black spots. These black spots have been identified through detailed project reports.

he/she also mentioned an incident that happened on Wednesday, where a car broke the red signal and passed in front of him/her. This incident shows people’s ignorance towards traffic rules. Gadkari urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to hold a separate discussion on road safety. Emphasizing the seriousness of the issue, he/she said the government is determined to improve the situation, but it requires collective efforts.
