Neither Ayushman Bharat, nor Ujjwala, nor free ration and nor farmers… Why did the voters give a blow to BJP?

New Delhi: In the Lok Sabha elections, 2024, BJP had focused on youth, poor, women and farmers. BJP had also laid special emphasis on the empowerment of these four in its manifesto. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself has described these four as the biggest caste and pillar of the country. After the election results, it has become clear that these schemes of PM Narendra Modi could not attract the public much. This class was the highest in UP and Maharashtra, where it has given a big blow to the BJP.

Beneficiary class created beyond the scope of caste, religion and farmers

Rajiv Ranjan Giri, a professor at Delhi University and political analyst, says that in the last few years, many schemes have been launched keeping in mind the youth, the poor, women and farmers. This has led to the development of a kind of ‘beneficiary class’. This ‘beneficiary class’ has been created by the implementation of government schemes irrespective of caste, religion and gender.

Then BJP could have lost 50 more seats

According to Rajiv Ranjan, the public did not support Modi’s guarantee as much as it should have. Here it can also be said that these guarantees saved the honour of the Modi government. If these schemes were not so popular, then perhaps BJP could have lost about 50 more seats.

Why did Modi’s guarantee not work, know the big reasons

In fact, many of the schemes launched by the Modi government were already running. Therefore, the public did not get anything new from it. Secondly, the Modi government was failing somewhere in the matter of providing jobs and employment. In UP itself, exams like police recruitment, which were pending for a long time, have been leaked, in which children from ordinary families appear for the exam. This resentment was somehow harming the BJP.

The narrative of changing the constitution changed the minds of voters

Rajiv Ranjan Giri says that the opposition propagated the BJP’s slogan of crossing 400 by saying that the BJP wants to change the Constitution so that reservation can be abolished. This narrative proved to be such an effective weapon at the grassroots level that the poor people who were taking advantage of government schemes gave a big blow to the BJP.

Modi failed to celebrate GDP

India’s growth rate i.e. GDP is running at a speed of 8.2 percent in 2023-24. Modi has been saying this in his/her every election campaign. he/she also described India as a country with a big economy. But, he/she failed to explain to the general public that when the economy is running, then why are the prices of petrol and diesel sky high? Why is inflation increasing so fast?

Did the Modi government convert beneficiaries into votes?

Rajiv Ranjan Giri asks whether the Modi government is able to convert the beneficiaries of the schemes into a vote bank. The Center for Study of Developing Societies had conducted a survey before the Lok Sabha elections, which said that the BJP is expected to get around 40 percent of the votes and its support among the poor and lower class is 39-39 percent. Talking about 2019, earlier its support base among the rich and the middle class was much higher and the gap with the poor was very high. The beneficiary class has bridged this gap.

The caste-class equation was a burden on the schemes

Election analysts say that one of the realities of Indian electoral politics is that these government schemes have blurred the battle between caste and class. However, even after this, caste equations are still ingrained in politics. That is why the list of party candidates is prepared according to the caste and class equations.
