On July 18, the Supreme Court had directed the NTA to declare the NEET UG results by 12 noon on July 20. The court ordered the agency to publish the marks obtained by the students on the website but not to reveal the identity of the students.

A bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra ordered declaration of separate city-wise and centre-wise results by Saturday afternoon.

The court had also stressed that NEET-UG can be re-examined only if it is proved that the sanctity of the exam has been damaged on a large scale.

The Supreme Court said that the 2024 NEET-UG – for admission to undergraduate medical courses – can be re-conducted only if the “sanctity” of the exam held on May 5 was “largely destroyed” due to the leaked questions.

Over 23.33 lakh students had taken the exam on May 5 at 4,750 centres in 571 cities, including 14 foreign centres. About 1,563 candidates appeared for the re-exam.

The controversy surrounding the 2024 NEET-UG exam erupted last month after allegations were made that the question paper had been leaked – subsequent investigation indicated that the leak was carried out by a national ‘solver gang’ network on social media.
