New Delhi: While there is Agneepath Scheme for recruitment as a soldier in the Indian Army, there are different types of entry to become an officer. Youth can serve the country by joining the Indian Army after 12th or after completing their graduation.From NDA to OTA
To become an officer in the Army, SSB entrance exam can be given to go to National Defense Academy (NDA) after 12th. In this, after written and interview, medical is conducted and the selected youth are trained in NDA. After three years of training in NDA, then one year of training is done in the Indian Military Academy (IMA) and from here, Gentlemen Cadets join the Army as Lieutenants. Apart from this, there is also direct entry after graduation. Through this the youth directly reach IMA. After training here for about one and a half years, they are then commissioned in the army.

There is also a technical entry scheme after 12th in which the youth do not have to give written examination and the youth are selected on the basis of merit according to the rank in JEE and 12th marks. The youth joining the Army through technical entry are made to do 3 years B.Tech before commissioning and then after commissioning they do one more year of B.Tech.

The youth serving as soldiers in the army also have opportunities to become officers in the army. Soldiers can also become officers in the Army through ACC (Army Cadet College), SL (Special List), SCO (Special Commissioned Officer) scheme. In the Army, soldiers are also given a lot of encouragement to become officers through ACC.

There is also short service
Apart from this, youth can also do short service in the army through Short Service Commission. This happens after graduation and they are trained in Officers Training Academy i.e. OTA. These youth serve in the army for 10 years. On completion of 10 years, they are given the option whether they want to go back now or want to stay in the army on extension for four more years or want to become permanent in the army through Permanent Commission. Those who opt for Permanent Commission are selected for the Board.

NDA cadet has been the Army Chief
Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi has been a cadet of the National Defense Academy i.e. NDA. After studying from Sainik School Rewa located in Madhya Pradesh, General Dwivedi was selected for NDA. After three years of training here, one year of training took place at the Indian Military Academy (IMA). One way to become an officer in the army is NDA, there are other ways through which one can become an officer in the army.
