National War Memorial poem in NCERT syllabus, Veer Abdul Hamid’s recitation will awaken patriotism in children!

The Ministry of Education (MoE) made a big announcement on September 20. he/she informed that according to the New Education Policy 2020 and National Education Curriculum 2023, something new is being added to the NCERT’s sixth class books from this year. In the sixth class, a poem named ‘Rashtriya Yudh Smarak’ and a chapter named ‘Veer Abdul Hameed’ will now be read. This work has been done jointly by the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Education.

The aim is to inculcate in children the spirit of patriotism, dedication to duty, courage and sacrifice. The MoE said that the poem ‘Rashtriya Yudh Smarak’ will help us understand the spirit behind it.

The chapter ‘Veer Abdul Hamid’ narrates the saga of the valour of Vir Chakra winner Abdul Hamid who made the supreme sacrifice for the country in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965. he/she was posthumously awarded the country’s highest gallantry award, the Param Vir Chakra.

The Ministry of Defence is working to establish the National War Memorial (NWM) as an important national monument. As a part of this, a collaboration has been done with the Ministry of Education/NCERT to include NWM and related topics in the curriculum.
Apart from this, many changes have also been made in the new book of social science of class 6 of NCERT. Harappan civilization will now be known as ‘Sindhu-Saraswati’ and ‘Indus-Saraswati’ civilization.
The ‘Saraswati’ river will be mentioned in many places, in which its drying up is also mentioned as one of the reasons for the decline of the Harappan civilization. Along with this, it is also mentioned in the book that India used to have its own ‘Prime Meridian’ which was called ‘Ujjayini Meridian’.
