Naseeruddin Shah wants to make a ‘courageous’ film on religion, says – it is harmful for humanity

Bollywood actor Naseeruddin Shah never shies away from expressing his views on issues of social and national interest. He often openly expresses his opinion on freedom of expression and the impact of politics on cinema. He had arrived at the 77th Cannes Film Festival with actress and wife Ratna Pathak. At the same time, during an interview, he said that he wants to make a ‘courageous’ film on religion. During a conversation with ‘Brute India’, Naseeruddin was asked if he had to choose a subject to make a film on any contemporary social issue. So what will he choose? He said, ‘I will choose religion. I think courageous films should be made about this factor, which we always think about.

Said ‘religion’ harmful to humanity

He further said, ‘In my opinion, this is one of the most harmful things that has happened to humanity and that is why I want to make a film on it, like I made many years ago in Pakistan, the name of which was Khuda Ke Liye, which is a It was an important film, as important as Manthan. Although some people are trying to make a film on this subject and gradually their number may increase, but it would not be right to say anything right away. Someone has to show this message in a different way.

Naseeruddin along with his wife Ratna Pathak Shah were also present at the screening of ‘Manthan’ (1976) directed by Shyam Benegal. The film was selected in the Cannes Classics section. The film also featured Girish Karnad, Smita Patil and Amrish Puri in important roles. Prateik Babbar was also there to watch the premiere of his late mother’s (Smita Patil) classic film.
