Got support from BJP-allies
Union Minister and former Bihar CM Jitan Ram Manjhi has supported this move of the UP government. he/she said that there is nothing wrong in this. What is the harm if traders are asked to display their names and addresses clearly? Manjhi argued that displaying the names of shop owners helps buyers to locate their favorite shops. This should not be seen from a religious point of view. However, BJP’s allies in Bihar, JDU and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) have criticized this order of the Yogi government.
UP government got support from its own people
In Madhya Pradesh, BJP MLA Ramesh Mendola has written a letter to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav advocating the implementation of a similar policy in the state. he/she says that this will promote healthy competition and improve the quality of service. Mendola has written, ‘A person’s name is his/her identity. Asking for the name is the customer’s right and the shopkeeper should feel proud in telling his/her name, not ashamed.’
Congress raised questions
Madhya Pradesh Congress spokesperson Mithun Ahirwar opposed Mendola’s demand and called it ‘politics of hate’. he/she expressed concern that this will affect Dalit food vendors. he/she said that often the food prepared by Dalits is viewed with prejudice. Giving the example of mid-day meal, he/she said that many times children refused to eat the mid-day meal prepared by Dalit women.
Keshav Maurya surrounded the opposition
UP Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya supported the directive and accused the opposition of doing appeasement politics. he/she said that instead of criticizing, the opposition should join it and free itself from its sins. Maurya said that this yatra is linked to the sentiments of crores of devotees. he/she described the opposition’s criticism as lacking ‘logic and vision’.
Nishikant Dubey made a demand to Jharkhand government
BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has urged the Jharkhand government to make name display compulsory for commercial establishments during the Shravan Mela in Deoghar. he/she said the order is non-discriminatory and constitutionally correct. he/she said this law was first made by the previous Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati governments. Since the BJP respects the law of the country, it is implementing it. What is unconstitutional in this? This order applies to everyone… Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians. Does it differentiate between any caste or religion?
Why did the political temperature rise in Jharkhand
Jharkhand Congress spokesperson Rakesh Sinha accused the BJP of using religious politics to divide people. he/she said the JMM-Congress-RJD coalition government believes in inclusiveness unlike the BJP. It should tell people why it believes in doing politics using religion?
