New Delhi : Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has expressed concern over the lies being spread regarding the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024. It seems as if many Muslim organizations have gone after the Waqf Bill. The Union Minister said that some people are spreading false propaganda that the government will take away the land of Muslims through the Waqf (Amendment) Bill. he/she called for an end to this ‘narrative’. he/she said that many people of the community have supported the bill. From the statement of the Union Minister, it seems that he/she is surprised by the kind of things being spread about Waqf.

Misinformation about the bill

The Parliamentary Affairs Minister said that some misleading information is being spread about this bill. Some people are spreading lies that the government will take away the property of Muslims. No Hindu, Buddhist, Christian or Sikh is going to take away anyone’s land. The bill aims to improve the management of Waqf properties. Replying to a question, Rijiju said that many Muslim organizations have supported the bill as they believe that Waqf properties should be used for community-related works.

Rijiju said that the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Wakf (Amendment) Bill has received crores of recommendations. he/she said that some people are spreading wrong information about the bill. Sources said on Sunday that the Parliamentary Committee considering the Wakf (Amendment) Bill has received 1.2 crore responses through email. The JPC headed by BJP leader Jagdambika Pal has received 75,000 responses with documents. In this, their respective views have been supported.

JPC will hold informal discussions in 5 states

The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 will hold informal discussions in five states between September 26 and October 1. During this, various stakeholders will be involved in an effort to simplify the proposed changes in the Waqf Act.
The Act governs the management of registered Waqf properties across the country. The first meeting will be held on September 26 in Mumbai, which will be attended by representatives from the Maharashtra government, the Ministry of Minority Affairs and the Maharashtra Waqf Board.

This preliminary meeting will pave the way for upcoming consultations by focusing on key issues such as transparency, efficiency and empowerment in the management of Waqf properties. It will include representatives from the Gujarat government, Gujarat Waqf Board and other concerned parties.
