New Delhi: The government has increased the salary of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs. Apart from the salary of MPs, the pension of allowances and former Parliament members has also been increased. This increase will be applicable from 1 April 2023. The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs issued a gazette notification on Monday. According to the notification, the salary of members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha has increased from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.24 lakh per month. At the same time, the daily allowance has increased from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500.

Apart from salary, pension also increases

Apart from this, the pension of former MPs has also increased from Rs 25,000 to Rs 31,000 per month. Apart from this, additional pension for service of more than five years has increased from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500. This decision has come in the middle of the budget session of Parliament. Earlier, the salary and allowances of MPs were changed in April 2018.

The last change took place in 2018

In 2018, the original salary of MPs was fixed at Rs 1 lakh per month. Its aim was that their salary should be according to the increasing cost of inflation and living. According to the 2018 change, MPs get an allowance of 70 thousand rupees to run office in their area and meet people. Apart from this, they get an allowance of 60 thousand rupees a month for office expenses and 2 thousand rupees every day during the Parliament session. Now these allowances will also be increased.

What more facilities do the MPs get?

Apart from this, MPs also get allowance to use phone and internet every year. They can travel 34 free domestic flights for themselves and their family in a year. They can travel by train for work or in the first class at any time. They also get fuel costs even after traveling by road. MPs also get 50 thousand units of electricity and 4 thousand kiloliter water free every year.

The government also arranges for their stay. MPs get a house without rent in Delhi for 5 years. They can find hostel rooms, apartments or bungalows according to their seniority. MPs who do not take a government house, get home allowance every month.
