Movie Review: The story got ‘complicated’ in trying to make Janhvi Kapoor a hero

Content is king… This phrase is quite famous in the film circles, but on screen, filmmakers often tamper with the content in an attempt to make their hero or heroine a hero. In this process, the matter gets complicated. Something similar has happened with the Janhvi Kapoor starrer film ‘Uljh’. Despite a unique subject and a good plot, this film loses its impact due to lack of research, ignorance of diplomatic protocols and in an attempt to make Janhvi a hero.

Story of ‘Tangle’

Written by Parvez Sheikh and directed by Sudhanshu Saria, this story is about Suhana Bhatia, a third generation IFS officer from a highly respected diplomatic family of the country. Suhana’s (Janhvi Kapoor) father Dhanraj Bhatia (Adil Hussain) is elected to the UN Council, while the smart Suhana also gets a posting in London as the youngest Deputy High Commissioner due to her clever diplomatic strategies. However, colleagues like Jacob Tamang (Miang Chang) and Sevin (Roshan Mathew) see the hand of nepotism in Suhana’s posting. In such a situation, Suhana wants to prove her ability to everyone including her father.

Meanwhile, at an embassy party, she gets so impressed with Nakul Sharma (Gulshan Devaiah) at the very first meeting that she ends up sleeping with him/her. However, Nakul’s real identity is something else. he/she starts blackmailing Suhana on the basis of her private video and starts getting confidential information and Suhana gets badly entangled in this trap. Now how does Suhana get out of this trap? Who has hatched this conspiracy to trap her? What is their motive? It would be better to know this only after watching the film.

‘Uljh’ Movie Review

There are some good twists and turns in the story. Editor Nitin Baid’s tight editing keeps the pace of the story going. But the way co-writer-director Sudhanshu Saria has flouted the security and protocol at VVIP places like embassy and high commission, this story loses its credibility.

Nakul arriving at very important diplomatic events and parties walking, an intelligent officer like Suhana suddenly behaving like a college girl, trusting Nakul without any background check does not make sense. Similarly, the climax of the film also seems to be a drama, far from reality. Meaning, the country’s identity is in danger, if Suhana wanted, she could have tried to stop this situation with a phone call, but no, she wants to be a hero herself, so she will go running and maintain the suspense till the last second.

Similarly, in the climax scene, there is a crowd of common people amidst heavy VVIP movement. In such situations, the security is such that even a bird cannot fly, but nothing like this is seen on the film screen.

Talking about acting, Janhvi’s hard work is visible, but she still needs to hone herself further to establish herself as a natural actor. Anyway, in this film, more attention has been paid to the costumes than her expressions. Gulshan Devaiah has suited his/her role very well. he/she has acted well.

Roshan Mathew also impresses in a supporting role, while senior actors like Rajesh Tailang, Adil Hussain are fine in their limited roles. The technical aspects of the film like cinematography, background score, costumes are strong. In terms of music, the song ‘Shaukaan’ has become a hit on social media.

Why watch- This thriller film with a different subject can be watched once.
