Movie Review: Anupam Kher’s ‘The Signature’ explores poignant and human relationships

Many films like ‘Avatar’, ‘Amrit’, ‘Bagwaan’ have been made in Bollywood on the helplessness of elderly parents and the neglected behavior of children, but director Gajendra Ahire, a well-known name in Marathi theater and cinema, has made a film ‘The ‘Signature’ is based on the story of a devoted elderly husband who struggles from pillar to post in his/her old age to save his/her wife who is put on a ventilator in the hospital. In this poignant story, Sanjay deals with the bitter truths of life and Anupam Kher’s strong acting proves to be the icing on the cake.

Story of ‘The Signature’

After spending his/her entire life settling down and raising his/her children, retired Arvind Pathak (Anupam Kher) plans a trip to Europe with his/her wife Madhu (Neena Kulkarni), but their lives are suddenly thrown into turmoil when Madhu suffers a brain hemorrhage at the airport itself. When admitted to the hospital, he/she is put on a ventilator. But after some time the doctors ask Arvind to sign on the DNR. Obviously, after signing the DNR, Arvind will lose his/her wife forever, which is absolutely unacceptable to Arvind. Due to financial constraints, the son also puts pressure on his/her father to sign. But Arvind sets out to arrange money to save his/her wife. Arvind makes various efforts to support his/her wife, from selling property to asking for loan and crowd funding. But will he/she be able to give breath to his/her wife? Will he/she get financial help? To know this you will have to watch the film.

‘The Signature’ Movie Review

In this film, director Gajendra Ahire takes you from a happy scene to that phase of life, which forces you to cry. Through the elderly characters of the story, Gajendra explores the neglected thinking of not only the children but also the society towards the aging parents. Does getting old mean being rejected? Don’t they have the right to live? Do children and society have no responsibilities towards them? How do children become so practical about the life and death of those children for whom their parents spend their entire life? All these questions prick you like a trap.

In the film, the director also raises the issue of exploitation of patients in the hospital through the character of Ranveer Shorey, while on the other hand, the characters of Arvind’s brother and sister-in-law, who have gone to take a share of the ancestral house, point towards the distance between the relationships. Are. This poignant story of Gajendra seems a bit slow at many places and like today’s films, the audience may miss the turns and twists in it, but Rohit Sharma’s background score enhances the sensitivity of the story.

This loser gets a new perspective on life from his/her first love (Mahima Chaudhary), but by the time he/she can understand something, it is too late. The climax of the film leaves you in tears. Talking about music, songs like ‘Ghir Aaye Badariya’, ‘Ghar To Paunga’ have become a favorite in the velvety voice of Talat Aziz.

Anupam Kher once again makes a name for himself in the matter of acting. National Award winner Anupam, who is adept at breathing life into his/her roles, reminds us of ‘Saaransh’ with his/her performance. Anupam has proved to be unmatched in the role of an elderly man struggling with the bitter truths of life, falling down and sometimes holding a ray of hope.

Ranveer Shorey’s acting in other characters of the film is amazing. Ranveer shows the depth of his/her acting in the anger that erupts out of helplessness after the hospital exploits the father of his/her son who has gone into a coma. Mahima Chaudhary’s acting as Ambika is heart touching. Mahima, who has fought cancer in real life, is also playing a strong role of a cancer victim in the film. Annu Kapoor has done justice to his/her role as the friend in every way. Neena Kulkarni leaves a mark in a small character.

Why watch- This film, which explores poignant and human relationships, is worth watching.
