US federal job layoffs: There is going to be a huge cut in the government budget during the tenure of America’s newly elected President Donald Trump. Trump has planned to make major cuts in government spending. he/she has suggested that the government budget be cut by 30%. At the same time, half of the 23 lakh government employees should be fired from their jobs. If Trump’s plan is successful, the work of government agencies may be affected and more than 10 lakh employees may lose their jobs.
Actually, after the victory of Donald Trump, a new department has been announced, whose name is ‘Department of Government Efficiency’ (DOGE). Trump said that Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Indian-American businessman Vivek Ramaswamy have been given the responsibility of this department. Describing the two, Donald Trump said, “I am pleased to announce that Elon Musk, along with Vivek Ramaswamy, will lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).”

What is the work of Elon Musk and Ramaswamy?

Leading DOGE, Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy have been entrusted with the responsibility of improving government spending. Their target is to cut the budget by 30% and make a major reduction in the government workforce of approximately 23 lakh employees. Government employees constitute 0.6% of the total US population. There has also been an increase of 7% in the workforce after 2019, but this number is less than the earlier figures. In the 1940s the government workforce comprised 2% of the country’s population.

Under Trump’s new plan, many high paying jobs are going to be cut. Musk and Ramaswamy wrote in an article in the Wall Street Journal that their aim is to reduce government spending and the number of employees working in federal agencies, due to which the jobs of government employees are in danger. There seems to be the most scope for cuts in high paid posts like Medical Officer, Ship Pilot and General Attorney.
