More people die every year due to pollution than those who die from Corona, the revelation of the former AIIMS director is scary!

New Delhi : Who can forget that difficult period of Corona epidemic when there was chaos not only in the country but in the entire world. At that time, if the entire country was eager to listen to any expert, it was Dr. Randeep Guleria, former director of AIIMS Delhi. Now he/she himself has given an eye-opening warning. Warning regarding pollution. About how dangerous this is. Guleria has said that more deaths are occurring every year due to pollution alone than the number of deaths due to the Corona epidemic. Guleria, chairman of Medanta’s Internal Medicine, Respiratory and Sleep Medicine and former director of AIIMS Delhi, said, ‘ The Health Effects Institute report said in 2021 that about 80 lakh people in the world died due to air pollution. This is more than the number of people who died due to Covid-19. We are worried about Covid, but we are not worried about air pollution.

Explaining how dangerous air pollution is, he/she further said, ‘Recent data from India shows that an increase of just 10 micrograms per cubic meter in PM 2.5 significantly increases the death rate. This causes respiratory and cardiovascular problems… Air pollution causes more inflammation in the lungs. Respiratory problems worsen. Many times patients end up in ICU or ventilator and this increases the mortality rate.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Guleria further said, ‘Similarly, people who have heart disease… it causes swelling or inflammation in the heart vessels and also increases the risk of heart attack. It is not just about the heart and lungs, pollution can affect almost any part of the body because these microscopic particles of air pollutants are less than 2.5 microns. When these chemicals enter the body from the lungs, they can travel to various organs, causing diseases with long-term effects, such as dementia, neurological problems, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, all of which are linked to air pollution. ..’

This warning of Guleria has come at a time when with the departure of monsoon, the season of pollution has knocked in the country. In the national capital Delhi, the air quality index has already crossed 400 before November. It simply means that the air has become so poisonous that breathing it is very dangerous for health.
